Qualifying Criteria

California Nursing Coalition memberships are restricted to California. Please submit an application only if you and the organization that you represent meet one or more of the following qualifying criteria:

• Nursing organizations within the state of California
• Organizations that represent nursing in the state of California
• California chapters of National nursing organizations

Membership is not open to individual Registered Nurses who are not selected representatives of a qualifying organization/chapter.

How to Collaborate within the California Nursing Coalition

• Once approved, organizations are expected to:
  • Log In monthly to review updates
  • Participate in regularly scheduled meetings
    • To view upcoming meetings, please refer to the calendar under the Working Groups tab
  • Share knowledge and expertise

A Note on Purpose

The Coalition exists to strengthen nursing's collective voice in California — these guidelines exist to make sure every member organization can work together effectively.

Rules for Engagement and Collaboration

• California Nursing Coalition: Meeting Guidelines & Netiquette
  • The California Nursing Coalition brings together a wide range of nursing organizations from across the state. These guidelines help our meetings — virtual, hybrid, or in person — stay productive, respectful, and welcoming to every member organization's voice.
• Before the Meeting
  • Review the agenda and any pre-read materials in advance so discussion time can focus on decisions, not background.
  • Join a few minutes early to resolve any tech issues before the meeting starts.
  • Come prepared to represent your organization's perspective, not just your personal view.
• During the Meeting
  • Mute your microphone when not speaking to minimize background noise.
  • Use your camera when possible — it helps build the working relationships this Coalition depends on.
  • Use the chat for questions, technical issues, or brief notes; save substantive input for open discussion or the queue.
  • Use the "raise hand" feature (or its equivalent) rather than interrupting, so the facilitator can manage turn-taking fairly.
  • Identify yourself and your organization when speaking, especially in larger meetings.
• Respectful Dialogue
  • Speak with candor and professionalism, even — especially — when perspectives differ. Disagreement about approach is expected and healthy; disrespect is not.
  • Focus feedback on ideas and proposals, not individuals.
  • Give space for other organizations to finish their thoughts before responding.
  • Keep an open mind: the Coalition's strength comes from the range of organizations at the table, not consensus on every point.
• Confidentiality & Discretion
  • Treat discussions of in-progress strategy, funding conversations, or sensitive organizational matters as confidential unless the group agrees otherwise.
  • Share Coalition updates externally only through agreed channels, so members and partners receive consistent information.
• Decision-Making
  • Every member organization has an equal voice. Come ready to participate in votes and discussion, not just observe.
  • If you can't attend, designate an alternate or submit input in advance where possible, so your organization's perspective is still represented.
