1. What is the California Nursing Coalition?
The California Nursing Coalition (CNC) is a statewide coalition uniting nursing organizations and organizations representing nurses across California, working together to strengthen the state's nursing workforce.
2. Who can join the CNC?
Membership is open to nursing organizations and organizations representing nurses in California. If you're unsure whether your organization qualifies, reach out and we'll help you figure it out.
3. Is the CNC accepting new members?
Yes. CNC is in its founding phase and actively growing its membership base. New organizations are welcome to join as we build out our coalition.
4. Is there a cost to join?
No. CNC does not currently have a dues or fee structure. Any future fee structure would require a full year of operation, a formal proposal, and a majority vote of the full membership, so there's no cost to joining now.
5. How is the CNC governed?
CNC is governed by its Steering Committee, made up of representatives from member organizations. Every member organization has an equal voice, one vote per member/organizations/ Chapter, and Steering Committee facilitation rotates among members rather than sitting with a fixed set of officers.
6. What are the working groups?
CNC will have standing working groups, each focused on a core area of the Coalition's mission. Members can participate in any working group aligned with their interests and expertise.
7. When was the CNC founded?
The CNC was founded as part of a California Health Care Foundation grant in 2026, and our founding membership convened for its inaugural meeting in July 2026.
8. How often does the Coalition meet?
An Initial standing meeting of every other month, however this cadence may be changed as the group matures.
9. How do I get involved beyond membership — can I join a working group or take on a leadership role?
Yes. Membership is the starting point, but most of the Coalition's actual work happens inside its standing working groups: Policy & Advocacy, Workforce & Pipeline, Community Health, and DEI. Any member organization can put forward a representative to join the group that matches its priorities, and these groups are where the Coalition's positions, projects, and public-facing initiatives take shape.
Leadership roles are open to member organizations in good standing as well. Rather than a fixed set of officers, the Coalition is moving to a model where Steering Committee facilitation rotates among member organizations, so leadership responsibility is shared across the coalition rather than held by one seat long term.
